Engineering company Monadelphous Group Ltd. became the first company in Australia to acquire a 750 tonne capacity Manitowoc 18000 with Max-Er attachment. The company’s engineering construction division has put it to work at a mining operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Fassi Cranes Assist in Rescue, Chilean Miners
Italian crane manufacturer Fassi has been playing a key role in the rescue of 33 miners trapped for nearly ten weeks in Copiapo, Chile. Fassi cranes have been maneuvering the steel pipes to form the recently-completed escape tunnel that is part of one of the most complex rescue operations in mining history.

Controversial cargo arrives at Port of Vancouver
Crews at the Port of Vancouver are helping move some extra-large packages: oil modules weighing 85 tons. The equipment, which arrived Monday, is bound for the Kearl Oil Sands in Alberta, Canada, where it will be assembled and used to extract oil from sand.
Caterpillar and Solimec have confirmed their plan to jointly develop a range of foundation cranes. The agreement follows the launch at Bauma of the 65 tonne Soilmec SC-65 lattice boomed crawler crane which was designed and built in collaboration with CAT.

A man was seriously injured last week in Choctaw, Oklahoma after a boom section landed on him. The accident happened on a bridge repair project when a lattice crane boom section fell on him. The section was being lifted by a 360 degree tracked excavator when it slipped, struck the man on the head and then pinned him to the ground.
