The new Effi-Plus system increases hoist and lowering speeds with light loads up to 70%, so that the hoist cycle time is significantly shortened, the company says. Effi-Plus has been applied to the 24 kW, 37 kW, 50 kW and 65kW drives of its LC1100, LC2100 and LCL series cranes at no extra cost to customers.

A man died yesterday on a building site in the small village of Cártama to the north of Málaga, after the jib of a tower crane ‘broke its back’ and crashed down onto the scaffold he was working from, throwing him from the third floor of the structure to the ground.

Crane ploughs into school children
Six children have been killed near Tokyo after they were hit by a mobile crane while walking to school. The tragic accident occurred this morning in Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, the children – five boys and a girl – included three nine year olds, one 10 year old and two 11 year olds.
Russian construction contractor OAO Metrostroy put its Terex CTT 331-16 flat top tower crane to the test during a 150 m high cooling tower build in Saint Petersburg. Local distributor JSC GRPM supplied the 16 tonne capacity crane for use at the federal power station where the 120 m diameter cooling tower is part of a project to replace the existing 1973 facility.
World’s largest offshore mast crane installed
Huisman has installed the world’s largest offshore mast crane onboard the heavy lift ship Seven Borealis, says the company. The Netherlands-based lifting, drilling and subsea specialist said the four-day installation of the 5,000 tonne lifting capacity crane was its heaviest and most complex project to date.
Raising the Quality of Crane Inspections
Conducting crane inspections according to the new OSHA 1926.1400 crane regulation requires that the inspector also be familiar with many other standards. A crane operator has been fined £2,500 and his employer £4,500 following a fatal accident in the UK in 2007. The accident occurred on a site in Liverpool in March 2007. Mark Thornton, 46, was working as crane supervisor for his employer Sitwell Construction, when the 50 tonne crane he was directing tipped over due to overloading. The load, a six tonne steel column, struck Thornton killing him instantly.
