A man was crushed yesterday in Hidd, Bahrain after a mobile lattice boom crane dropped a container load of concrete slabs.
The cause has initially been blamed on the failure of one or more hooks on the set of lifting chains being used.
The man, Mohammed Ferdous Islam, 29, from Bangladesh was helping load the containers onto a ship. A colleague working alongside him escaped unhurt. Both men are employed by Al Hassanain Construction Company.
An investigation has been launched and inspectors claim to have discovered a number of violations, as a result a technical report will be submitted to the public prosecutor.
This is the second work fatality in Bahrain in a few days, on Sunday Ashok Kumar Kamaljit, 38, a steel erector working for Six Construct, fell 13 storeys at a building under construction in Manama after he reportedly took a short cut at the end of his shift. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
