A national crane inspection programme has been launched in the USA to provide separate certifications for mobile, tower and overhead cranes. The CCO national inspector certification programme was jointly set up by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and the Crane Certification Association of America (CCAA).

Fatal crane overturn in Alaska
A crane operator has died after his crawler crane overturned in North Douglas, near Juneau, Alaska on Thursday. The man, Boyd Cody, 75, was operating the crane from a barge in the Gastineau Channel, moving a larger generator at the yard of Trucano Construction in North Douglas when it tipped onto its side.

Queensland fatality, trigger safety stoppage
The accident involved a 65-year-old foreman who worked for the formwork specialist Bosform of Yatala. He was crushed by a large shuttering form which dropped from a crane at a height of 20 metres or more. According to local reports a lifting eye on the formwork gave way, causing it to fall.
