Despite the OSHA deadline, both employers and operators should be pursing certification now – early compliance with the regulation is always the best choice, says Jerry Longtin, Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) General Manager. A crane operator certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) is recognized by employers and contractors as the “gold standard” of crane and crane-related personnel certifications. The NCCCO is offering these exams at ConExpo-Con/AGG. This is a great opportunity to leave the Expo as Certified Operators.
To help operators with this process, CICB will be holding Mobile and Articulating Crane Operator Preparatory Training on March 3rd – March 5th before the exams at the Expo.
The following tips will aid those attending the pre-exam preparatory training or those just taking the exams:
What do operators typically need to know to pass the written exams required for certification?
•Site conditions and hazards
•Manufacturer’s load charts
What should I do to prepare for the exams?
•Review all applicable federal and industry standards
•Read, review and understand crane load charts
•Brush up on your math and test-taking skills
The best way to pass your exams is to attend CICB’s NCCCO Mobile Crane Operator Preparatory Training for Lattice Boom, Swing Cab, Fixed Cab, or Articulating Cranes before you take your exams.
CICB’s professionally trained instructors and subject matter experts are not only NCCCO Certified as Mobile, Overhead & Articulating Cranes Operators, but are also CCO Certified Riggers, Signalpersons, and Crane Inspectors. All of CICB’s trainers are NCCCO accredited Practical Examiners. CICB’s instructors have been awarded the prestigious Top Trainer Award in 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2009.
Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) crane experts and CCO Practical Examiners will be on-hand at the NCCCO’s exhibit at ConExpo to point out the safety benefits of training and NCCCO certifications. In addition, CICB’s accredited Practical Examiners will be donating their time and expertise to administer practical exams.
The goal of CICB’s training programs are to reduce accidents and injuries, increase worker skills, productivity and morale, and achieve regulatory, best practice and corporate compliance, and lower maintenance costs, increase reliability and life of the equipment. CICB, headquartered in Orlando FL since 1969 with a second training facility in Houston TX, offers scheduled training programs at our facilities and at various locations across the U.S. or customized on-site training at your facility.
