Ya I would have to agree with Steve on this one. By listening to the sounds is the best way to figure out what happened. I think this was the result of operator error more than equipment failure. Sounds like the throttle was not strong enough or something similar to it. Once that load started to go, there is no way to stop it. The brakes will not hold a load at that velocity. It could of been some poor communication between the crane operators. This is a very dangerous pick. I am surprised the cranes were staged the way they were.

I remember when bungee jumping first became popular in the early 90's. I always say them on mobile cranes. I can honestly say I have not seen that in a long time. I don't know if it is because of these regulations or if they are because bungee jumping just is not as popular as it was 20 years ago. Any idea?

Great artice! I listen and read Jeffery Gitomer all the time too. He has some great information to get out to sales and management or just about anyone. This article I believe in my industry hasn't got their yet but it is coming very soon. Over the last couple years I have created my own blog, built up a network base on LinkedIn, focused on Tweeting information that is important to my customer base, and tried to respond to other blogs that are relevant in the market. This blog here I believe for the crane industry is currently the most relevant out there. It is filled with great information and most people I talk to in the industry about social media knows this blog. Great work and keep it up!

That was quite the idea they came up with to get those pieces inside the building. I would think they would have put the beams in the building prior to building that entire wall or at least designed it to get a beam in the building and then use a forklift in the middle to pick it up and kitty corner the beam and spin it back once it was clear.

Even if you didn't right it was in Austria, it was obvious to me right away when I saw all the cribbing that this could not be in the United States, then to top it off not one person had on a hard hat. Just amazing no one was killed. I don't even know how that cribbing could pass. It wasn't even straignt or againsnt each other.
