Crawler crane manufacturer Fuwa Heavy Industry Co in China is testing a new range-topping 1,250 tonne capacity lattice boom crawler crane.

In the truck crane sector models based on standard commercial vehicles are becoming a more popular option than the traditional truck crane with dedicated carrier.

The massive 3,000 tonne Liebherr LR13000 crawler crane has moved a step closer to starting its extensive test programme.

The new model, the 25EL is based on the 25E launched last September but is over 400kgs lighter and so better suited for applications where point loadings are critical.

With this market in mind, April’s Bauma exhibition in Germany threw up a range of appropriate products. One of them was the new 600 tonne capacity narrow track Liebherr LR 1600/2-W crawler crane designed for erecting wind turbines up to 3MW on 100 m towers without needing a derrick system.

From Liebherr’s mobile crane programme, an LTF 1045-4.1 truck crane will be displayed, mounted on to a Volvo FM 84 RB chassiscab, together with a 130 tonnes capacity LTM 1130-5.1 all-terrain mobile crane and the 90 tonner LTM 1090-4.1 – both resplendent in customers’ liveries. Also on the stand will be a 350 tonnes capacity LTM 1350-6.1 which makes its UK show debut and another UK premier will be one of Liebherr’s successful crawler mounted telescopic cranes – the 60 tonnes capacity LTR 1060, which was recently launched at the Bauma exhibition in Munich.

German hire firm Breuer and Wasel had bought one of Terex’s new AC 350/6 six-axle, 350t, all terrains. The hirer says it is also looking to build its fleet in the very high capacity range.
